FOR the Cardinal Levy

by Duane Siracki
Cardinal Community Member and Owner of Siracki Realty

Dear Registered Voter,

Regarding the November Cardinal School Levy, even though my two daughters and their children have graduated from Cardinal School, I will continue to support this community school levy.

As a realtor for over 50 years, I get to see with my own eyes how communities are affected just by school levies.  Most people want to move into a neighborhood with good schools.  The better the school, the better the community, as a rule of thumb.  Schools on a downward spiral are a sign of a downward community.  Good schools make good citizens and produce good future workers in industry and commerce.  When school levies go down, real estate tends to go down in value.  Good neighborhoods will have less crime and higher property value.  With higher property value there is an opportunity to borrow money to help put children through college etc.

Thank you for reading this.

A Thriving Community Relies on a Quality School System

by Ben Garlich, Mayor, Village of Middlefield

November 1, 2022

The Success of our local schools is directly tied to the support the district receives from its residents. The residents of the Cardinal Local School District have continued to support their local school system and on November 8 I am asking that you continue that support. The Cardinal Local School District renewal levy carries a tax rate of $0.97 per $100 of assessed value. Renewing the existing levy provides funds to maintain and improve the district, keep facilities and structures in the best working order and allows our district to provide the kinds of programs to create foundation blocks for a successful career and future after high school. It is my hope that these students feel supported by the community to provide them with a quality school. By supporting the Cardinal Local School District, the community will continue to thrive  and be a quality community for families to raise their children. Middlefield Village is where families grow strong and that includes the Cardinal Local School District.

Legacy of Cardinal Schools

by Joyce Barbarotta Peters,
Cardinal Community Member, Cardinal Retiree, Parkman Trustee, and Mom/Grandmother of 9 Cardinal graduates

My name is Joyce Peters. My husband Tom and I have lived in the Cardinal School district since 1975. I worked at Cardinal Middle School as a Librarian for 23 years, then due to ...budget cutbacks in 2006, I was laid off and the libraries were essentially closed. I was lucky, a secretary moved out of state, and I got that job at the high school where I filled that role for 5 years. Again, budget cutbacks caused me to be riffed and all my responsibilities added to the duties of the remaining two secretaries, a heavy burden. At that time, the same thing was happening all over the district to try to save your tax dollars. Again, I was lucky that my skill set allowed me to get a job in the district as the EMIS coordinator who reports all student, staff and academic data to the state of Ohio, where I remained for 3 years until my retirement. I don't tell you all this for you to feel sorry for me, I tell you this to illustrate that over the years the district has made many, many cuts to staff and services in order to be fiscally responsible.

All four of our kids have attended and graduated from Cardinal High School. They received a great education from talented and caring teachers and coaches and have thrived in their lives. I won't list their accomplishments because I think many of you know about us already. What I will tell you is that they got the best school experience it is possible to get. Yes, maybe at a district like Kenston that seems to have unlimited funds, we pale a little in what we offer. But what we do offer is excellent.

From those four kids of ours, we have 15 grandkids, 9 have graduated from Cardinal. Even our son who lives in Arizona with his 5 children wishes his kids could have gone to Cardinal and longs for the kind of experience he had here for his kids.

The legacy of a district like ours remains with you all your lives, imprinting a spirit and pride and values that you cannot get anywhere else. We have had many friends, family members and people from all over tell us how lucky we are here in this place we call home. What exists here doesn't exist in most other places. We are family. We need to support this family for generations to come. We want our Great Granddaughter and Great Grandson who live here in the district to have the same excellent experience. Please go to the polls on November 8 and cast your vote for the future of all Cardinal kids.

A Letter About the Upcoming Renewal Levy by a Cardinal High School Senior

Ana Fisher

It is important for Cardinal Schools to pass the renewal levy so the district can continue to offer the many unique educational and extracurricular opportunities that make our small school great. As a student on the college path, Cardinal offers a wide variety of college credit plus classes that allow me to earn credits for both high school graduation and my intended college major simultaneously. If the levy doesn’t pass, many of these classes and other programs, like sports and the arts, will be limited or no longer available for upcoming students like my younger siblings. In addition, these programs wouldn’t be offered without the amazing teachers at Cardinal.  Our teachers support the students in and out of the classroom, making a difference in each student’s life. Without the levy, Cardinal would not be able to afford to pay all the teacher’s salaries, most likely forcing cuts. The upcoming students at Cardinal deserve to have the best opportunities.  We must pass this levy to keep these opportunities alive.  Help Cardinal kids put their best foot forward and vote yes for the upcoming renewal levy.
